The SAS was the first to employ Land Rovers as mobile weapon platforms. The SAS used jeeps to fire upon German planes positioned on distant desert airstrips during World War 2. After the war, they eventually upgraded to the new Land Rovers. Mobility Troop mastered the technique of transforming everyday cars into long-range patrol and attack vehicles. During operation Desert Storm in 1991, the SAS put the theory into practice by guiding a number of well-equipped Land Rover columns below Iraqi lines.
