As in the case with the black beret, wearing of black coveralls is a custom reserved only for The Royal Tank Regiment. It stems from a Royal review held at Aldershot in 1935 in the presence of King George V. On this occasion the practical black coveralls were worn on parade by all ranks of The Royal Tank Corps for the first time.
